Azem Hajdari

In Tirana, Azem Hajdari, a political activist and one of the main figures of the Democratic Party of Albania, was killed in front of the headquarters of the Democratic Party. He was born in the city of Bajram Curri, in 1963. He finished high school in his hometown. He attended higher studies at the Faculty of Political-Legal Sciences of the University of Tirana, where he graduated in the field of philosophy (1991), and then graduated from the Faculty of Law (1994). He became known in December 1990, when he became the head of the Student Movement of December. He was one of the founders and main leaders of the Democratic Party of Albania. He was elected four times as a member of the Assembly by direct vote. Azem Hajdari headed the Parliamentary Commission for Order, SHIK and Defense for about 7 years. In articles, interviews, and speeches for 8 years, he demanded the establishment of democracy and the rule of law, the eradication of the worldview and practices of the monist state and showed special interest in the national problem, the issue of Kosovo, the rights of Albanians outside the state borders. After the transition of the Democratic Party to the opposition (1997), Azem Hajdari continued to provide assistance for the preservation and development of democratic standards in Albania. In September 1997, he was injured in an assassination attempt in the parliament hall. Several assassination attempts were made against him in the form of ambushes. Azem Hajdari has been decorated with the orders “Honour of the Nation”, “Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg” and in Kosovo with the gold medal “Albanian Connection of Prizren“.
