Bill Clinton (William Jefferson Clinton), President of the United States of America, was born in Hope, Arkansas. He attended elementary and high school in Hot Springs, and studied law and international relations at Georgetown University in Washington, Oxford in London, and Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1977, he was appointed Attorney General of the State of Arkansas, and in 1978, he was elected Governor of Arkansas, a position he held until 1992. Clinton successfully won the presidential elections in both 1992 and 1996 as the Democratic Party candidate. He acted decisively against the warmongering policies pursued by the former Yugoslavia under Slobodan Milosevic’s regime from the mid-1990s. In 1995, in cooperation with NATO, he intervened to end Belgrade’s war of aggression in Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the beginning of 1999, Clinton played a crucial role in organizing NATO’s military actions in Yugoslavia, committing to put an end to the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Kosovo Albanians through the operations of the Allied Forces. After a military campaign lasting 78 days, Serbian military forces were forced to withdraw from Kosovo on June 10, 1999, paving the way for the deployment of the United Nations peacekeeping mission (UNMIK) based on Resolution 1244 of the United Nations Security Council. Even after leaving the presidency, Clinton continued to support the people and institutions of Kosovo in their efforts to build a democratic and independent state. In gratitude for his commitment to Kosovo’s independence, numerous streets and boulevards have been named after him, a statue has been erected in Pristina on the boulevard that bears his name, and the University of Pristina awarded him the title “Doctor Honoris Causa.” (Pictured: Bill Clinton)
