Namik Resuli, philologist, literary historian, was born in Berat. He completed the classical lyceum in Bari and higher studies in philosophy in Turin. From 1935, he worked as a teacher of Albanian language and literature in “Normal” high school in Elbasan, then in the Lyceum of Korça and in the high school of Tirana. During the years of the fascist occupation, he had important duties and at the end of the war, he was settled in Italy. He worked for a long time at the University Institute “L’Orientale” of Naples and from 1975 until the end of his life, as the director of the Institute of Albanian Studies at the University “La Sapienza” (Rome). During the 1930s and 1940s, he published a series of articles, mainly on historical-literary issues. He is one of the main caretakers and compilers of the two-volume text “Shkrimtarët shqiptarë“ (“Albanian writers”) (1941). Engaged in the debate on the problem of the literary language, in the early 40s of the 20th centuriy, Namik Resuli focused his philological interests on the study of old Albanian texts. The work “Grammatica albanese” (1985), the product of the author’s long experience in teaching Albanian, presents a description of its phonological and morphological system and represents one of the most complete works of this type for Albanian. He passed away in 1985. (In the photo: Namik Resuli)
