Nazmi Rushiti, participant of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War, Hero of the People, died in Zerqan of Dibra. He was born in Dovolan, Peshkopia, in 1915. He embraced communist ideas while attending high school in Tirana and Shkodër and became a member of the Communist Group of Shkodër. In January 1939 he was arrested and sentenced to prison by the trial that was organized against the communists in Tirana. He escaped from prison after the fascist aggression of April 7. In December 1939, he was expelled from the Shkodra High School and exiled to the Italian island of Ventotene. He returned to his homeland in September 1941. With the establishment of the Albanian Communist Party, he was accepted as a member and then sent to the district of Dibra. He helped organize the armed struggle in the district of Dibra. In a brave action in Zerqan, he was seriously injured and died from fascist torture. (In the photo: Nazmi Rushiti)
