Sulejman Gashi

Sulejman Gashi, journalist, passed away in New York (USA). He was born in Kumanovo (North Macedonia) in 1959. He finished primary and secondary school in Kijevo, Malisheva (Kosovo), while he completed his studies in English language and literature at the Philological Faculty of the University of Pristina. During the years 1983-1988, he worked as a teacher in the high school of Kijeva and Klina. From 1988, he started working as a journalist-reporter at TV Prishtina (RTP). In 1990, after the violent closure of RTP by Serbia, he emigrated to the United States of America. Until 1999, he reported from New York for the Albanian-language media “Rilindja“, “Bujku“, the program for Kosovo on Radio-Zagreb and then for Albanian Radio Television. He was co-founder of the Albanian-American newspaper “Illyria” in New York. After the liberation of Kosovo in 1999, he was appointed media adviser to the head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), Bernard Kushner, and coordinator of UNMIK for the establishment of public electronic media in Kosovo, Radio Television of Kosovo, and radio ” Blue Sky”. From September 2003 he returned to the United States of America, as a correspondent for Radio Television of Kosovo. In addition to journalism, he also dealt with translations.
