Kasëm Trebeshina, poet, prose writer, dramatist, essayist, died in Ankara, Turkey. He was born in Berat, in 1926. He interrupted his studies at the Elbasan Normal School and joined the ranks of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War (1942). He began his higher studies at the “Ostrovski” Theater Institute in Leningrad, but did not finish. His disagreement regarding the politics of the leadership of the Labor Party of Albania and his opposition towards the direction into which literature and the arts were swayed, led Kasëm Trebeshina to prison more than once, as well as costing him the removal of the right to publish . His “Memorandum” addressed to Enver Hoxha (October 5, 1953), denounced the concentration of power in the leader and the installation of the method of socialist realism in the Albanian culture. For ideological reasons, his work began to be published only in the 90s of the XX century. Beginning after 1991, he published: “Stina e Stinëve” (“Season of seasons”) (novella, 1991), “Legjenda e asaj që iku” (“The legend of what is gone”) (stories, 1992), “Koha tani, vendi këtu” (“Time now, place here”)(stories, 1993) etc. Kasem Trebeshina’s work is a show of rebellion against a reality where everything was turned into its opposite and operated according to logic. In it, the individual is defended, whose alienation was intended, both from reality and from art. Extended in time, very voluminous, diverse in terms of literary genres and types, rich and original in terms of artistic discourse, the work of Kasëm Trebeshina, even though part of it is still unpublished, constitutes one of the most interesting voices in the post-war Albanian literature.
