Salvadore Braile

Lexo ngjarje:

In the village of Saint Mitri (Italian: San Demetrio Corone) in Calabria, Salvadore Braile (1872–1961), Arbëresh poet, was born. Saint Mitri was one of the most important intellectual Arbëresh centers, and at the same time, it was the center of the famous “Saint Adriano” college. Salvadore Braile studied at this college but was interrupted due to economic difficulties. Later, while working as a telegraph operator, he managed to secure the income to pay for literature courses and complete his studies. From 1924 to 1926, he was appointed by the Ministry of Education as a literature teacher in Albania at the Franciscan high school in Shkodra, where Gjergj Fishta was the director. Salvadore Braile admired the Albanian language, which prompted his desire to engage in translations from Italian. Besides excelling as a lyric and satirical poet, he also wrote original prose works. In 1924, he published in Shkodra the translation along with the original  Albanian text of the work “Komedianti-Satira për të ndershmit e Shën Mitër Koronës” by the folk poet Kostandin Beluçi.
