In Tirana, the “House of Leaves” National Museum of Recordings was inaugurated, the newest museum in Albania and one of the most special that tries to tell young people and foreigners about one of the darkest periods of the country’s history. Positioned in the center of Tirana, in front of the Orthodox Church: “Resurrection of Christ” and next to the National Bank, the building that briefly housed the Gestapo during the occupation of the country in World War II, has been the Central Intelligence Headquarters of the Secret Service from 1944– 1991. Like the history of Albania itself under the communist dictatorship, which was installed at the end of the Second World War and continued for almost half a century, the ” House of Leaves” (so called because of the creeping plant that covered its facade) for a long time it was wrapped in all kinds of legends and constituted an unknown, a mystery. By opening the doors of this house, presenting the activities carried out inside it and many other related things, this museum simultaneously presents views of Albanian society under the conditions of a regime that aimed at complete control over the bodies, minds and souls of the people. The “House of Leaves” National Audio Museum is conceived in 9 sections, consisting of 31 coherently connected rooms, each with a special function.
