In Hora of Arbëreshë (it. Piana degli Albanesi) near Palermo, Paolo Schirò, Arbëresh philologist, bishop of Arbëreshë in Sicily with the title “bishop of Benda” (1904), passed away. He was born in Hora of Arbëreshë in 1866. He studied at the Arbëresh Seminary in Palermo and then became the rector of this seminary, where the manuscript of Gjon Nikollë Kazazi was kept with a text copied from Buzuku’s “Meshari“ (“Missal”) in 1740 and with data for the book. Paolo Schirò rediscovered “Meshar” in 1910 and for thirty years he was busy with his study and with the preparation of the philological edition of the book. He published some parts of this work in collaboration with Gaetano Petrota. He is the author of a grammar of the Albanian language. He left a manuscript translation of Frang Bardhi’s Latin-Albanian dictionary into Albanian-Latin. (In the photo: The book “Meshari” by Buzuku.)
