The “Vushtrri Massacre” took place, a massacre committed by the military and police forces of Serbia against the Albanian civilian population in Vushtrri, in which over 60 people were killed. On May 22, 1999, Serbian forces forcibly removed residents from their homes and gathered them at the well-known location “Te vorret” in the town of Vushtrri. A number of these citizens were deported to Smrekonica, while others were sent to Albania. The victims of the massacre included men and women of different ages. After the execution, the bodies were transported by truck and taken to Serbia. After the war, and up until 2015, the remains of 67 Albanians killed in the massacre were returned to their families.
